PMS -- Property Management System

A PMS that isn't run with structure throws away data every day. Booking codes assigned wrong, room types misclassified, revenue not posted to the right department -- and the forecast, the revenue management, the monthly reporting: all of it sits on a shaky base. In properties we have analyzed, 25% to 30% of booking data was coded incorrectly on average. Not from carelessness -- from missing training and missing process.

What we see in practice: In many properties, the PMS is treated like a reservations book -- you enter what you need and ask for nothing more. It is the data source for everything: controlling, benchmarking, tax planning, system integration. The data thrown away today cannot be reconstructed later. This is not a software question. It is a process question.
