New system, or live with the old one?

Twenty vendors, contradictory promises, and in the end your team takes the hit. I sort the decision before you spend the money.

What this sounds like in practice:

  • Demos promise everything. Daily use delivers little.
  • Your gut says switch. Your head asks: switch to what?
  • The last bad buy still sits in your team's memory.

What this means

A new system isn't always the answer. Sometimes the real question is: what exactly is broken right now? I don't bring favorite products. I ask whether a switch is needed at all. Sometimes the honest answer is: not now.

When a switch happens, the fit decides. Size, budget, team. The rollout doesn't end at go-live. It ends twelve weeks later, when the tool feels obvious.

Sometimes the best digital project is the one you don't run.

The PMS has run for fifteen years. The vendor hasn't shipped a release in two.

The director brought a new tool back from a trade show. The team has no idea what it's for.

Three people work the channel manager, each in their own way.

How this runs, step by step

  1. Check the reason first.

    Before I look for options, I test the original question. Sometimes the best answer is to keep what you have and use it properly.

  2. Build the shortlist.

    Three to five vendors, picked to fit this specific property. No rankings, no comparison portals. Reference calls with real customers.

  3. Choose with the team.

    The GM and ownership decide. The scoring is built by the staff who will use the tool. Whoever rolls it out helps choose it.

  4. See the rollout through.

    Pilot, training, migration window, parallel run kept as short as possible. Twelve weeks after go-live, one closing call. Then I'm out.

Houses that lay the data foundation early close the month 5 to 7 working days sooner.
