Booking engine

The booking engine is the technical booking system on a hotel's own website. It lets the guest book directly -- without routing through Booking.com or Expedia. It connects to the PMS and channel manager and handles real-time availability and pricing.

A booking engine is not a website checkbox. It is a sales channel, and it has to perform like one.

What we see in practice: A 60-room resort hotel pulls 62% of its bookings through OTAs at a 15% commission. At rooms revenue of EUR 980,000 a year, that is roughly EUR 91,000 in commission. Lift the direct booking share by 20 points and the saving is around EUR 30,000 -- same rates, same hotel, same guest. The difference sits in the booking flow. Weak UX, rate-parity gaps, slow load times: the guest drops out and books where it is easier. A booking engine has to work like a well-run front desk. Clear, quick, no surprises.
