Systems integration

Systems integration means that a hotel's software -- PMS, POS, revenue management system, accounting -- communicates automatically. Data flows without manual intermediate steps.

In properties without proper integration, the same data gets transferred manually every day: from PMS to accounting, from POS to revenue list, from booking system to forecast. Calculated monthly, that comes to eight to twelve hours of pure transfer work. Annualized, that is over a hundred hours -- for tasks that require no judgment, only attention. Add the error rate. Every manual transfer is a chance for digit swaps, missed lines, wrong assignments. And every error ends up in the monthly report at some point.

What we see in practice: Most properties know their systems aren't optimally connected. Still, the status quo holds. Integration sounds like effort and day-to-day pressure wins. What rarely enters the calculation: the time lost daily to manual transfers, and the decisions made on faulty data. Both have a price that doesn't appear in the cash ledger.
